“When I first met him I was 210 pounds, in constant pain and walking on a cane. I have multiple disabilities but he was patient to learn about each disease and to treat me based only on my individual needs, not some cookie cutter massage that only relaxes and doesn't work towards healing. I am now 65 pounds lighter, in less pain, walking without a cane and even doing swim aerobics three times a week. He knows the anatomy and what tendon, insertion point or muscle is acting up.”

Deep tissue massage for pain that keeps coming back
“You will leave saying WOW.”
Slow, deliberate pressure through the deeper muscle layers for spasm, knots and pain patterns that keep coming back.

What it is
Deep tissue is a combination of corrective massage therapies intended to relieve injuries, spasm and pain patterns. Where a relaxation massage stays in the surface tissue, deep tissue works slowly through each layer until it reaches the one that is actually holding the problem — which is why it takes time, and why the pressure builds rather than arrives all at once.
Most people who book it have been carrying the same complaint for months: a shoulder that will not let go, a low back that tightens by Wednesday, a calf that never quite recovered. Regular treatment, rather than one heroic session, is what changes those patterns.
What it helps
- Chronic tightness that returns within days of stretching
- Muscle spasm and guarding after an injury
- Desk-and-screen shoulders, neck and upper back
- Low back pain that is muscular rather than structural
- Recovery between hard training blocks
What is included
- A short intake covering your history, activity and what you want out of the session
- Full assessment of the region before any pressure is applied
- Slow layered work with pressure matched to what the tissue will accept
- Breathing and positioning cues so the muscle releases instead of bracing
- Aftercare — what to expect over the next 48 hours, and what to do at home
The session
How a deep tissue massage appointment runs
Talk first
You tell me what hurts, when it started and what makes it worse. Two minutes of history usually changes where I work.
Assess
I test range of motion and palpate the region so the plan matches the tissue, not the label on the booking.
Work the layers
Pressure builds gradually and stays there. Deep does not mean fast, and it should never mean fighting you.
Reassess and send you off
We re-test the same movement so you can feel the change, then you leave with two or three things to do at home.

Questions
Deep Tissue Massage: the questions people ask
Does deep tissue massage have to hurt?
No. There is a difference between productive pressure — the kind you can breathe through — and pain that makes you brace. Bracing works against the treatment. Tell me when the pressure crosses that line and I adjust.
How is deep tissue different from the other modalities?
Deep tissue goes after specific dysfunction in the deeper layers and takes a slower, more targeted approach. It is one of several modalities practiced here, and any number of them can be used in a single session — which ones is determined by the postural analysis.
Will I be sore afterwards?
Some tenderness the next day is normal, particularly on a first session or after a long gap. It should feel like the ache after a good workout, not sharp pain, and it should ease within about 48 hours. Water and gentle movement help.
How often should I come in?
For an active problem, weekly or every two weeks at first, then spacing out as things settle. For maintenance, most clients land on monthly. We work that out from how you respond rather than from a script.
Do I need to undress completely?
No. Much of the work here is done with you fully clothed in athletic gear. If you do change, you are draped with a sheet throughout and only the area being worked is uncovered.
Can I combine deep tissue with cupping?
Yes — cupping is $100 and pairs well with deep tissue when tissue is dense or slow to respond. Mention it when you book so the time is allowed for.
