Neuromuscular therapy for pain that has a pattern
“You will leave saying WOW.”
A structured program for acute and chronic pain syndromes — trigger point pressure that removes the cause of the pattern, not just the ache.

What it is
Neuromuscular therapy is a program of recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes. It uses specific massage therapy, including pressure on trigger points, to eliminate the causes of pain patterns rather than chasing the ache from one week to the next. The aim is balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system — function of joints, muscles and movement improves, and the body releases its own endorphins.
This is the modality Shawn is board certified in, and it is the one most often requested by clients arriving from a chiropractor or physical therapist. It suits pain that behaves predictably: the headache that starts at the base of the skull, the hip that complains on the same stair every time.

What it helps
- Referred pain that shows up somewhere other than its source
- Migraine and tension headaches
- Neck and low back pain syndromes
- Carpal tunnel and TMJ symptoms
- Pain that returns to the same spot after every treatment elsewhere
What is included
- A history that maps where the pain travels, not just where it sits
- Palpation to locate the active trigger points feeding the pattern
- Sustained, measured pressure held until the tissue changes
- Postural and movement observations that explain why it keeps recurring
- A short home protocol so the gain is not lost before the next visit
The session
How a neuromuscular therapy appointment runs
Map the pattern
We trace where the pain starts, where it travels and what sets it off. Referral patterns are predictable once you know them.
Find the source
The tender point you can feel is often not the one driving it. Palpation finds the one that reproduces your symptom.
Release, hold, retest
Pressure is applied and held until the tissue gives, then the movement is retested immediately.
Protect the change
You leave with two or three specific things to do — usually positioning and one stretch — so the pattern does not re-establish itself.

“Shawn is amazing. He's been helping me with my posture. A blessing from GOD. Only drawback because he's so good is lack of appointments besides the monthly one :(”
Questions
Neuromuscular Therapy: the questions people ask
What is a trigger point?
A tight, irritable spot in a muscle that refers pain elsewhere. Press the right one and you reproduce the exact headache or arm ache you came in with — that recognition is how we know we have found the source.
Is neuromuscular therapy the same as deep tissue?
They overlap but are not the same. Deep tissue is about working through layers of tissue. Neuromuscular therapy is a structured protocol aimed at a specific pain syndrome, and it is the style most preferred by insurance companies and chiropractors.
How many sessions will I need?
Chronic patterns that have been in place for years take more than one visit. Most people notice a change in the first session and a durable change over three to six. We reassess as we go rather than selling a block up front.
Can it help my headaches?
Frequently, yes — when the headache is driven by muscular referral from the neck, jaw or upper shoulders. Headaches with other causes need a physician; if what I find does not fit the pattern, I will tell you.
Should I bring notes from my chiropractor or physio?
Please do. Anything that tells me what has already been tried, and what imaging showed, makes the first session more useful.
How do I pay?
Cash, check, credit card, Windows of Wellness gift cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Ask about insurance when you book.
