There are really two questions hiding inside this one, and they have different answers.
If you are solving a problem
An active complaint — a pain pattern, a restriction, an injury you are recovering from — usually wants weekly or every two weeks sessions at first, then spacing out as it settles. The reason is simple: tissue and nervous system both need repetition to hold a change, and three weeks is long enough for an old pattern to re-establish itself.
Most people notice a difference in the first session and a durable change over three to six. If nothing has shifted by then, the plan should change rather than continue.
If you are maintaining a body
For maintenance, monthly is where the majority of long-term clients land. It is frequent enough to catch things before they become complaints and infrequent enough to be sustainable, which matters more than the ideal interval you never actually keep.
What should push you to book sooner
- A change in training volume — a new block, a race build, a return after time off
- A change in workstation or commute
- Sleep quality dropping off alongside tightness
- A complaint that used to resolve on its own and now does not
A note on cost
A monthly session at $100 is roughly the price of a couple of coffees a week. Framed against the cost of an injury that takes you out of training for a month, it is a reasonable trade — and packages are available if you want to plan ahead.
Whatever the interval, consistency beats intensity. One session a month for a year does far more than six sessions in a panic.
